Red Lake is a warm and welcoming community that thrives on a relaxed pace of life. Located right in the heart of nature and surrounded by boreal forests, water, and wildlife, relaxation comes naturally in Red Lake.

Perhaps you are seeking something a bit more active? Red Lake is a place with a number of activities among nature, including hiking, swimming, sightseeing, bird watching, kayaking, and canoeing. Visit one of our many sandy beaches where you can play beach volleyball, try out the play structures, or simply enjoy a relaxing picnic in one of the covered gazebos. If golf is your thing, Red Lake boasts the most northernly 18-hole golf course – Red Lake Golf and Country Club. This immaculate and challenging golf course has 88 acres and is situated alongside a scenic bay of Red Lake amid a natural wilderness environment.



If fishing is what you are after, Red Lake itself has over 500 miles of rugged beautiful coastline to explore. It is known for its trophy size Walleye, Northern Pike, Whitefish, and Trout. Fishing is plentiful in both the summer months and in the winter months. The community is surrounded by countless unscathed lakes and water systems which makes Red Lake every angler’s paradise!

Red Lake is proud to host on August 13th the annual Anglers Young Anglers (AYA) Fishing Tournament. This tournament is open to aspiring young fisher-persons and their guardians and sees 40 boats of anxious anglers vying for the top prize. During the September long weekend, Red Lake also hosts the annual Fall Classic Catch and Release Walleye Fishing Tournament. This tournament hosts 130 boats competing over 2 days for big prizes. If you are interested in competing in these angling events, you better get your entry in quick as the entries fill up fast!

There are several lodges and fly-in outposts in and around Red Lake that cater to anglers, hunters, and adventure seekers. Whether you visit Red Lake for the annual moose hunt or to catch that trophy walleye or just to get away from the hustle and bustle, Red Lake’s lodges are more than ready and willing to accommodate your needs and satisfy your desire for adventure. Friendly and knowledgeable camp owners can arrange for everything from guiding to outfitting and ensuring your stay is a truly relaxing experience.


Red Lake is the gateway to Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. This park is a paddler’s dream boasting nearly 2,000 km of pristine canoe routes and 1,500 remote canoe-in campsites among countless lakes and river systems. Woodland Caribou Provincial Park is located within the newly named UNESCO World Heritage site, Pimachiowin Aki (translated “The Land that Gives Life”); located within Canada’s boreal forest this site has received this prestigious recognition for both its cultural and natural values. Air transportation is available via the Red Lake Airport and its state-of-the-art Airport Terminal Building.



Not only does Red Lake pride itself on its pristine natural environment, there are many other activities to enjoy for all ages. Red Lake is home to a number of recreation options which include an indoor swimming pool, curling ice, tennis, pickleball, and squash courts, recreation facilities with full-service gyms, squash courts, hockey, figure skating, cross-country skiing trails, snowmachining, ATV’ing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking. Formal physical activity courses and instruction are available at the Red Lake Recreation Centre. Located on Highway 105 as you enter Red Lake is the fully accessible Phillip Thomas Vinet Centennial Park. This is not a place you want to miss! Here you can enjoy the skateboard park, walking trails, adult exercise equipment, children’s play structures, splash pad, and our newly constructed Market and Events Pavilion, which offers an outdoor covered ice surface in the winter months, a basketball court in the summer months and a state of the art venue for markets, events and recreation activities for all seasons. If you’re a baseball fan, you can take in a ball game at the newly renovated baseball diamond, which is also located within this welcoming recreation cluster.


While you’re here plan to visit the Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre where you can learn about Red Lake’s history, including our renowned gold mining past and the significant history of the Indigenous Peoples in our area. The Heritage Centre is home to many photos, artifacts, and interactive displays that will fascinate all ages. This state-of-the-art facility has one of North America’s most prolific collections of the finest First Nations Art. Displays of Aboriginal artistic legends such as Norval Morrisseau’s Woodland Art are on display. The Red Lake Heritage Centre is also a host for many cultural programs and events that are sure to captivate all those who participate. The Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre is a must-see for any visitor to Red Lake.


Also on display at the Heritage Centre are pictures of the world- renowned Norseman float plane. In the late 1920’s, Red Lake had the busiest airport in the world! Fueled by the gold rush, plane loads of people and supplies were ferried by Norseman plane in and out of Red Lake daily. While you are here check out the notorious Norseman Park where you will find an authentic Norseman plane on display overlooking the lake. To this day, the Norseman is the most celebrated float plane in Red Lake’s history and the annual Norseman Festival held in July attracts thousands of visitors who enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages.


You won’t want to miss the Annual Red Lake Anishinaape Pow Wow. Held in June along the shores of Red Lake at a historic traditional site, Keesic Beach, this popular event welcomes all to come share in traditional dancing, singing, and drumming. There are traditional activities, wares, food, and a welcoming feast to be enjoyed by all.
